Uddiyana means flying upward energy lock. It is the bandha that moves the energy upward from the earth, water, and fire centers into the heart (air) chakra strongly influencing the efficacy of the lower bandhas by "making room" on top.

The steps for Uddiyana Bandha Yoga are as follows :


1) Sit down comfortably, place the hands on the inside of the lower thighs with the meat of the palms resting on the top of the lower thighs fingers pointing slightly in towards the knees and close your eyes.
2)Exhale forcefully out of the mouth. Get empty.
3) Drop the chin towards the chest, closing the back of the throat.
4) Lift the belly in and up, in part by trying to inhale, without actually doing so, because the back of the throat is closed.
5) Hold for 5 seconds to begin, lengthening the duration as you gain more endurance and skill.
6) Before inhaling, let the belly go, releasing the lock, and then take a breath in.

Uddiyana Bandha strengthens the abdominal muscles and diaphragm and massages the heart and lungs.
It increases gastric fire; improves digestion, assimilation, and elimination; and purifies the digestive tract of toxins
and stimulates blood circulation in the abdomen and blood flow to the brain.
