An Outdoorsy Weekend
Hey pals! Matt and I caught about town this previous weekend, and our adventures had one particular primary theme: be outside as a lot as feasible!
I kicked off the outdoorsy-ness on Friday by biking more than to Edge Yoga for a noon yoga class with Heather for a nice break in the workday. Our car was getting its oil changed at the store, so I figured I’d dust off my commuter bike and get there that way rather. Accomplishment! Excellent class and I often fail to remember how considerably I take pleasure in biking as my transportation – have to do it far more frequently!
As for Friday night, I met back up with Heather, this time with our gentlemen, to kick off the weekend appropriately with some adult drinks and nachos at Screwtop Wine Bar in Arlington. Matt and I each got caught operating later on than we imagined we would and missed content hour, but fortunately we made it just as the nachos arrived. Whew – excellent timing! )
I had a Greek salad to round out my meal (people nachos are so filling, specially with the pulled pork!) – delicious!
On Saturday morning, I was excited to meet my track buddies for a group run! I constantly truly miss these weekend run dates when we’re out of town, and considering that I’d been out of town the previous 4 weekends in a row it had been way too extended since I joined the gang!
Excellent morning for a run – it felt so good to be back out there in my favourite city and chatting away with my running buddies!
We did our favored big bridge loop, which begins in Georgetown at the waterfront, will take us along the water and then down Hains Stage, in excess of the bridge by the tidal basin, and back along the Mt. Vernon Trail to the Essential Bridge.
We got faster and more quickly as we ran, and I ended up finishing out the final few miles of the run with my buddy Sokphal – she constantly problems me to push it on speed, which is hard but also a very good thing. :)
Just in excess of 6 miles, examine! Excellent common general speed for me for a weekend run, as well!
The other individuals went on to run far more miles my buddy Paul and I had been done, though, so we headed in excess of to the waterfront for stretching and running action shots, of course. He’s a great sport about currently being my photographer. :)
Right after the run, I drank some chocolate milk in the car (don’t wait too long to refuel, close friends!) and headed to the grocery store on the way back for provisions. When I received home, Matt and I created a brunch feast – pancakes (making use of our new fave Simple Mills combine) + bacon + scrambled eggs. The pancakes had some frozen wild blueberries stirred into the batter which was a delicious addition, and I added some maple syrup to the mix following taking this photograph. :)
Following cleansing up and undertaking some stuff all around the residence, Matt and I headed out for our big journey of the day: a triple date group hike with our friends Kathleen, Zach, Sarah, and Jochem. (The very same Sarah whose bachelorette Kathleen and I have been at last weekend in Charleston – their wedding is in 3 weeks!)
We met up above at Scott’s Run Nature Preserve it was packed but fortunately they have sufficient trails that the trails themselves weren’t crowded.
Really like these girls! We had the ideal time out on the trails, as usually. And yes, that is a makeshift little one carrier made using sweatshirts due to the fact they forgot their little one bjorn. We had been impressed with how effectively the makeshift a single worked!
Soon after hiking, we experimented with to hit up a beer garden but it was packed, so alternatively Matt and I invited absolutely everyone back to our area to appreciate our deck! We picked up some beer on the way and the good news is Matt and I already had a bunch of crackers and cheese (Cabot, of course!) on hand to throw together a fast spread for everybody to snack on. :) I had a couple of these Southern Tier ginger beers – not super gingery, but really delicious!
Soon after everyone headed out, I whipped up a quick dinner for us – a sheet pan Asian-inspired salmon with veggies that I’ll be sharing the recipe for later on this week! It was SO excellent – and truly quickly and simple to clean up after given that you only use the one pan. Tasty, as well – this will certainly be extra to the rotation! Generally I’d serve this more than rice or quinoa but considering that we’d just had a bunch of cheese, crackers, and beer, just the salmon and veggies was best to round out our evening. :)
I was in bed with a guide by 9 p.m. – no shame. I adore becoming social all day but following dinner I flip into an introvert and want to study in bed and have quiet time. :) I’m re-reading a single of my favourite books, Memoirs of a Geisha. So good – difficult to place it down even even though I’ve read through it several times ahead of!
As for yesterday, Matt and I slept in and had a breakfast of leftover pancakes and fried eggs. I spent the rest of the morning undertaking some perform (I knew I desired to get Monday afternoon off so required to get ahead!) ahead of heading out close to noon for a bike trip with Matt and our buddies Shane, Matt, and Matt’s girlfriend Christine!
We biked from Arlington out to Vienna through the Custis Trail and the W&OD Trail. As soon as in Vienna, we stopped at the Total Food items appropriate on the trail for a late lunch! I was in the mood for dinner-ish things randomly so I went for chicken, sweet potatoes, and veggies (string beans, roasted beets, and raw red pepper).
Then we biked back! It was beautiful out there – had been way also extended considering that we all went biking collectively!
We all came back to our spot and hung out on the deck for a bit, then right after everybody left Matt and I made the decision BBQ was in purchase for dinner. Rockland’s BBQ it was! Enjoy this place. I went for one/4 lb. of their chopped pork with baked beans and a cucumber mint salad. Scrumptious!
Matt has the day off operate nowadays for President’s Day I’m operating a bit this morning but looking forward to a exciting late morning/afternoon off. :)
Have a excellent day guys! Any individual else get in some fun outdoorsy adventures this weekend?
